I'm unsettled, (usually) and this is where I post the fanfic I write + random babbling + mad, mad flailing over movies/books/what have you. So, consider yourself warned! This will contain slash material (guys loving guys, though that doesn't exclude guys loving girls, or girls loving girls, or creature/machine/random object loving), as well as plenty of possibly disturbing kinks/sexual practices. (I tend to feel bad for all those little kinks without any love. Um. And I'm (very near) unsquickable.) If this isn't for you, why are you still here? Shoo.

Otherwise, be welcome. For a fuller list of my zillions of fandoms, check out this post. I tend to hit one fandom hard at a time, often months or years behind everyone else in the universe, and then rush off to another fandom.

Currently, the biggies are Sherlock Holmes, Body of Lies, Rock'n'Rolla, Inception, and Iron Man, although the list keeps growing. You can find a master list of my fics here and at AO3 on the sidebar.

Feel free to friend me for whatever reason, but I'd love it if you drop me a hello in the comments. As to anyone I've recently added – if I didn't drop you a note, I probably friended you because I've had your journal in my bookmarks for months, think 'awesome person' and being too shy to just go ahead and say something. Feel free not to add me back, as you most likely don't have the faintest clue who I am; I'm mostly hoping that seeing your posts on my flist will give me a push towards actually saying something.

Day 03

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Ah yes, the ever challenging one.

This year I think I'll focus on a different group of fics - things I've done for challenges/other people. At first I was going to say I seldom write for others, that most of my writing is done for myself, so when I sign up for Yuletide or Remix or such, it's extra challenging - but as I looked a little further, I realized I actually write for others fairly often (well not lately but in the past). The difference between the two lies in the recipient - usually when I'm writing for someone else, it's a friend I know well enough to be able to put a spin on the fic that's just to their taste, versus a match, who I know nothing about and problem am not going to have much luck stalking their everything. >.>

So! I pulled up the last things I wrote for actual challenges:Collapse )

Day 01

In your own space, talk about why you are doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge? What drew you to it as a participant? What do you hope to accomplish by doing these challenges?

I feel like I've done this two years, but perhaps it's only been one? I like doing it as a sort of kickstart to the year, getting myself back in the habit of writing anything at all, and posting. Making noise, I guess? I like the low level challenge of it, that it's not necessarily something very difficult or challenging, that I might still feel capable of when I'm having a lousy day, but at the same time, I could make it more challenging and invest much more time in it. It's very user guided. As for what I'd like to accomplish with it - mostly, to get myself back to writing and responding again - it's been such a long time since I've really been active in a fandom in a way that's not simply lurky consuming, and I miss it a lot.

Alright, here it goes: I now declared the third commentfic war open!

Doing this a little different than previous times: Feel free to leave either a commentfic (of whatever length, fic that fits within the comment box) or a prompt. You may write a fic in response to a comment, or in response to something someone else wrote.

Other rules: NONE. FLY FREE AND FIC

Closing Date: A week from now?

HAVE FUN I COMMAND IT.

EDIT:

Ok, so it's been a week! A great week, full of great fics! And it looks like we're still going pretty strong, with both prompts and fics, so i don't really want to just shut this down.

I'm going to keep this up as a sort of ... proto informal kink meme. What that means for now is that you can continue to post prompts and fills! You can also post things you've written here elsewhere, if you want, or post things elsewhere that are fills to this, if they grow too long for comments. You can wait and see if people post things elsewhere and comment on fills there, or you can comment here. Feel free to comment on prompts as well.

Not sure how this will continue on, but we'll see!

Dear Yuletide Author,

I'll start by saying I’m already super excited for whatever you write! I’ve been sort of out of fandom participation most of this year, and miss it dreadfully, so this is a nice little reminder to get back with things.

General likes: Angst! Unhappy endings, misery, misunderstandings, long drawn out ust. Don't get me wrong, I like happy endings too, but I really love all the misery as well. I mean, heh, just take a look at most of my fics.
Slash, sex, both explicit and fade to black, kink of pretty much any variety. Trust issues, power dynamics, damaged people repairing themselves.

General dislikes: Most AU's aside from canon divergence ones. Explicit het sex. Extremely fluffy or domestic fic.

Fandoms:

Almost Human:
The show that never quite lived up to its potential, sigh. Best would be a relationship between John and Dorian, anything from angry sex to just the budding start of something romantic. They're just so darn cute together.

Da Vinci's Demons:
Aw man, I don't even know where to start with this show. I mean. Arg! Ok, well, there's this for starters.

As for what I want most here … is really difficult to pick! I deeply, deeply love the idea of Riario/Leo, anything at all there. I’m just as interested in Leo/Zoro, Riario/Nico, Leo/Riario/Zoro, Leo/Zoro, Riario/anyone, Zoro/anyone (he's not listed in the character tags, but Zoro/Amerigo would be amazing), ok, pretty much anyone/anyone. I’m happy with fucked up relationships, straight up porn, gen, something sweet and almost normal – anything! (I know, that's so helpful.) I just have had a hard time finding near enough fic for this fandom.

I have not watched season 3 yet, but I’m going to try and get in before Christmas, so feel free to use elements from that season or leave them out as you wish.

Black Jewels:
What I would really, really love here is basically porn, between Lucivar and and Daemon, probably earlier on, when things were a lot more fucked up than in the books. I always sort of got the impression that they had an encounter or two, either before they were aware they were brothers, or after. It can full of disturbing stuff and consent issues, or sometime a little gentler with finding comfort in each other, doesn't matter to me. Explicit is awesome, but I’m ok with fade to black as well.

If you're not comfortable with porn, I'd be just as happy with gen that delves into their relationship earlier on, the little hints we get about them   destroying courts and being too dangerous together. Alternatively, gen or slash with Daemon and Rainier would also make me super happy.

Body of Lies:
Ok honestly here I'd just love anything not written by me. >.> Roger/Hani is preferred, of course, but I’m most interested in just hearing someone else's take on things! You can get a good sense of what I like here from my fics – playing with the trust issues and power play between those two is always a big interest.

I did have every intention of actually posting more after my last post. nly then life happened ...

I moved out on my own, which was great! Only that meant I was without internet for a bit. And then, just after I'd gotten all settled in, not even a full month from the day i moved into the place, I discovered the owner was foreclosing. Bad news? Everyone was evicted. Good news? They'd give you a nice check if you moved out by a certain date.

That was almost two months ago. Due to an unbeleivable level of incompetence, I finally recieved that check yesterday, a month and a half after I moved into a new place, that I dislike very, very much. :s

Also in the good news/bad news section: Someone had left kittens behind when they moved out. Good news? They are no longer starving or homeless or making more kittens, but instead sitting on my lap right now interferring with my typing. Bad news? I still haven't found homes for the boys, five cats is TOO MANY for me right now, and kittens are expensive! And destructive.

But darn they are adorable. >.< Anyone want a bold, playful, fiendly Topher Brinks or a mellow, cuddly, affectionate Aloysuis? I'm keeping Miss timid and easily startled Natasha.

It's been a really long couple of months, but I'm hoping in December at least I'll be able to just concentrate on Christmas. Soon I should ahve up a couple post about holiday things!

Also, if you haven't seen it, the_me09 has a post over at blackwoodcoward trying to organize something for the holidays. I miss everyone!

Well I’ve been gone a while. *check* Yeah, my last post was at the end of June, but even before that I fizzled out around April. Sigh. Always with the good intentions, always with the letting them fall by the wayside.

As per usual, the culprits are once again the combined forces of depression and anxiety, who make a great team. It's been a weird kind of depression this round, a sort of low level apathy/fear that affected all the little stuff rather than the big, important things, during a time of the year I’m generally ina decent mood, which made it hard to figure out at first and then even harder to figure out how to break out of. And then anxiety kicked in, with this weird circle of thoughts I get into about how I can't possible do thing until I’ve done other thing, which I can't bring myself to do for unknown reasons. So other thing never gets done, which means original thing can't be done, which means I now have multiple things to feel extra guilty about not doing.

In many cases, original thing was 'start posting to lj again' and other thing was usually 'as soon as I catch up with a goal progress/media monday/fic/something really cool'. >.>

Add some money and health problems into the mix and …

But lo, it is a new month and I can once again have high hopes for myself, yes?

So let"s start off with one of those long abandoned goal progress postsCollapse )

So that's … progress on 3/12 things. It's better than nothing, but still quite a downer. Here's to a higher number next month.

Cross posting from the original post at [community profile] imadeathing !

I made a thing! Two things, in fact. Both are cross-stitch pieces, and for both I ended up mostly creating my own pattern, which was something new for me. And much trickier than I expected!

The first is a relatively simple Supernatural piece from [personal profile] analise010 's prompt of 'get the salt'. I based the pattern off images I found online and ended up using a free pattern maker to try and figure out how to get the curves of the pentagram down - I had found a pattern, but it was for a very large version and didn't translate down well. What I learned: curves and diagonal lines are hard! >.<

Supernatural!Collapse )
*

The second is characters from the tv show Farscape. I did a similar Avengers ones quite a while ago that I bought the pattern for, and wanted something like that for Farscape. There wasn't anything out there that I could find, and while the creator of the Avengers one was taking commissions, something must have come up and they disappeared. So I decided to try making the pattern myself. I started with the base from from the Avengers one and then fiddled around with that to create all the other characters. I spent a lot of time looking at pictures and trying to get details down - enough to be distinctive, but not so detailed that it would be impossible in such a small space. Moya, Pilot, and Rygel I had to do completely from scratch, and Pilot especially was tricky - how to distinguish arms??

I also found choosing and using colors really, really difficult - there's a lot of subtle shading going on that just doesn't translate well to small amounts of thread. The flosses would look different until I'd already done half an arn's of work, and then I'd realize you couldn't tell them apart at all. Then it was time to unpick and try and find another color - lots of time spent in front of the bins of floss comparing shades. LOTS. Chiana was especially tricky and I'm still not 100% pleased with her hair. What I learned: subtlety doesn't translate to tiny pixelated figures. Also, perfectionism is the enemy; let it go.

But in the end I'm pretty pleased with it! And I think I learned a lot about making and tweaking patterns as I go that will help on whatever my next project might be!
Farscape!Collapse )

7. Something you're just really proud of

Take What You Can - Sherlock Holmes, Blackwood/Coward/Holmes, NC-17

I am proud of this for so many reasons! Partly just for getting it down – it was abandoned for so long that I thought I'd never get it finished, and it had the added guilt of something that I was supposed to complete for a challenge and instead dropped out of. I’m proud because it's (for me) so long! And almost plotty! I can't do length or plot and I kind of did here, with world building even! :o And I’m proud that I feel like it works, works well even, with the progression and evolution of the relationships in it, that could be really unbelievable. At least I hope.

5. Something for a large fandom/pairing/character

This Time I’m Not - Avengers, Tony gen or OT6, G
Tony Stark isn't used to having a team yet.

Aww, my first real megafandom fic. (You could say, rightfully, that Sherlock Holmes counts as a megafandom now, but the Victorian side of it doesn't feel as much like that to me as something like Avengers.) I'd written a few Iron Man ficlets before, but all before MCU really took off. I was quite nervous about posting this! I feel a different sort of nerves writing for huge fandoms, because I read enough that I feel like it's easy to absorb particular fanon characterizations, and sometimes the things I enjoy reading aren't always the things that are the most in character, and I don't always want that to seep into my writing. Though I think it still does to some degree in the end.

And it was nice to have such a high hit count and kudos ratio. Little reminder of the nice reasons to write in a large fandom. :p
